Well, That's Comforting (Sort of ...)

Michele reports that the Greensboro Police Department will now respond to all reports of shots fired. Wonderful, I guess, but it's pretty disheartening to realize that they weren't already doing this.

Good to know that the GDP will be pulling officers away from those spots where crime wasn't happening.

David: Something I've been pushing to my local legislators is to implement the Project Exile program that was so successful in Richmond in the late 1990s, that the governor or Virginia expanded it statewide.

I was a reporter in Central Va. covering state and federal courts in early 2000s and Virginia Exile was a very successful program in reducing gun violence.

I get very disheartened every time I hear of another young person gunned down or a store owner murdered.

I keep waiting for the more rational members of this state to bring about a solution to the problem.

I didn't hear or report that. GPD plans to use officers' obligated time to put more call-answering cars on the street in hot spots. There will be an increase in calls for service now that cars are being dispatched for shots fired reports in hots spots. But the increase in officers working in those areas should make up for that.

I didn't mean to imply that you had reported it. It was merely a tongue-in-cheek reference to an earlier GPD policy that I thought was wrong and stupid.

As we traverse the city looking for photo opportunities for Greensboro Daily Photo, we've been impressed at how peaceful and orderly life seems. And we have covered a LOT of territory.
