this conversation is ongoing in our home...probably because i constantly read books on poverty. i'm nearing the end of jeff sach's 'the end of poverty,' and recently finished several on the working poor, and respect across SESs. i'm often surprised (and upset) by my peer groups lack of interest and involvement on the topic of poverty in our community. it is, no doubt, a complicated issue, but that doesn't make it okay for it to be ignored.
